Engaging in meaning

In the face of learning, challenging and exploring ideas of fulfillment, it is laughter that is the great equalizer. I have spent many intimate evenings, all over the world, sItting in dining rooms, living rooms, restaurants, airports; over long meals, the whole soundtrack of life’s songs playing in the background, retelling old stories with old friends, making new stories with new friends, in flurries of upheaval and moments of calm. With all the seriousness and “have to’s” of adult life, any place I can let go and not take it all so seriously feels like a compelling place to be. I am committed to laughing daily, being silly, being a great mom, dancing with abandon, always buying the “good cheese” and creating.

I want to fully inhabit spaces that allow questions to meld  into ideas, inspiration and towards radical shifts. This messy process  helps me trust and lean into the unknown, into discovery. Eventually, these places become manifestations of what is important to me, in all of its slow cooked, exciting, earnest ways.  I don’t aim for perfection but I love seeing myself as resilient.

I often think about when my kids were babies and the nights felt endless, being responsible for their well-being felt overwhelming, the seriousness of each meal, outfit choice, every activity…it all seemed like the most important choice. And then it passed. And so will all the heartaches, challenges and even joys. Change stays beautifully consistent.
