I was born and raised in a Korean American family on the West Coast of the United States. After college I had the opportunity to live and work in Hong Kong during the time of the handover from the United Kingdom to China. After being a British colony for 99 years, Hong Kong was in the midst of a radical transition as the motherland China was ready to take back its lost child. It was an intense and extremely mixed cultural adventure that I experienced at the beginning of my career.
“I believe that recognizing and understanding the gifts of my journeys so far, has helped me to be a better designer and more importantly a better person every day.”
My next stop was New York City (truly the greatest city in the world) where I continued to work as a fashion designer and then decided to specialize in accessories. Living in this incredible metropolis showed me what true diversity and inclusiveness means. For the first time in my life I felt like I was not being exclusively defined by my mixed cultural background, and I could simply be me. When I moved to Recanati, Italy where I have lived and worked for over the last 20 years, I finally began to feel like I could see the world of products and fashion from an international perspective combining my American, Asian, and European experiences. I feel extremely lucky and blessed to be able to work and live in the small medieval town of Recanati. Life here is full of history, culture, music, good food and thousands of years of art, beauty and style. When I am not working and traveling, I am enjoying the slow life with my husband and two children which allows me to think about, reflect on, and appreciate the quality of life through the everyday objects and traditions that surround us.
